Il y avait cinq mois

The first five months of 2009 have been a blur. I’m pretty sure 2009 isn’t technically moving any faster than 2008 or 1973, but things do seem to have accelerated in my life.

January – I learned I had lost my job, found a new job in the same company and therefore my blogging flourished for a couple weeks my fate was uncertain. I smiled, I cried, I LinkedIn, I worried, and finally I was relieved.

February – I began a new role as an Account Manager. It’s a much fancier title than my previous four letter abbreviation. I smiled, I fretted, I was uncertain, and I essentially stopped blogging. The days of reading and commenting on vast numbers of blogs felt like a distant memory. Work and life were in the way. The Illinois Inlaws paid us a visit. During their visit I learned more about American Baby dolls than I care to admit. Someone I live with travelled to Mexico for a week of surfing.

March – we drove to Portland, Oregon to visit our friends. We had a splendid time and our daughter pleasantly surprised us with her ability to sleep in a hotel. Work remained busy, the weather remained chilly and cool in Seattle, and I think I commented on about five blogs during the entire month.

April – the sun came out, we rejoiced. My wife and I enjoyed eight years of wedded bliss, dining at a nice establishment with The Florida Inlaws. Took some time off work during the Inlaws visit to show them our fair city. If someone will ever buy their Florida home, they’d consider moving to Seattle. So far they’ve had no bites on their gated community house. I swam two days in a row with my father-in-law and that was a nice feeling as the pool and I aren’t getting along too well recently.

May – we celebrated my 36 birthday. Mother’s Day came and went and we took Baby Singe to Chicago for the second time. She was amazing. Not sure what I was truly expecting, but in my head I imagined her fussing during the flight since she was sitting on our laps. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact we got compliments at both ends of the flight regarding how well behaved she was during the voyage. We must be doing something right thus far.

In Chicago we had probably our best visit to the Windy City in recent memory. Baby Singe loved chasing her costumed cousin while saying “Batman” in her version of a deep voice. There were bunnies, birds, and ducks in the grandparents backyard which gave her something to watch every day. Me? I had a grand time enjoying the nice Chicago spring weather and not working. I also enjoyed seeing both of my inlaws naked. Yes, that happened. Let me tell you something, that’s not something one ever forgets.

June – month six of 2009 is two days underway and I haven’t seen any over the age of 60 naked yet. I consider this to be a success. At the end of the month my brother and his two sons will get to meet Baby Singe for the first time. I’m anxious to see my bro and his family.

    June – I blogged. Therefore I am, n’est-ce pas?

  2. meno says:

    June – i commented.

  3. egan says:

Cléa – yes, any bloggers still standing today deserve medals or at least a hug. Bloggers have feelings too.
Meno – well done. Don’t tire yourself out too fast.

How did it happen that you saw your in-laws nekkid? Or do I want to know?

  5. egan says:

Churlita – I snuck into their bedrooms in the middle of the night and then turned on the camcorder. I kid. The first time I came downstairs with my daughter and looked towards the kitchen and saw my mother-in-law stark naked. You see their bathroom is adjacent to the kitchen and she’s been known to roam her house naked, with or without company present.
The other one happened late at night as I was suffering some insomnia. Too much chocolate before bed made me have trouble sleeping. The stepfather-in-law went to the bathroom, saw the TV on and wandered toward the living room. I was on the cough trying to get tired, minding my own business when a man with boobs approached me. Yikes.

  6. Jen says:

Sounds like a wonderful trip to Chi-town minus the naked in laws.
I hope you can blog plenty this month, with no job issues. :)

  7. egan says:

Jen – my goal is 2-4 new blog entries a week. It’s good for me to blog as I enjoy getting stuff off my chest. I’ve banned myself from Facebook Status Updates for the month so that should help.

  8. Matt says:

    Egan,
It’s OK. I haven’t updated mine since April. No new artwork, so no new blog updates. I did buy an 80″ hollow core door on clearance for $5, so I’m contemplating my masterpiece for the new office. I also ordered 623 ft2 of bamboo flooring for my summer project… Take care.

  9. qt says:

I’m glad the Windy City treated you well. Blogging and I are still on hiatus. I am scared to write, as though my actually recording good things might make those good things disappear suddenly…I know this is a strange concept, but work with me on it…

  10. SM says:

May – lived in the kitchen.
    That is all.
And sorry about the naked in-laws. I can’t even imagine how I would react if I saw mine naked. It wouldn’t be pretty, though, I’m sure.

  11. SM says:

p.s. this new “I can’t blog because I’m working too hard” Egan is kind of freaking me out.

  12. egan says:

Matt – my buddy in Portland just put in bamboo flooring. I’m anxious to see his pad because I like the look of bamboo flooring. I’ll be curious to hear your feedback about installing it. What kind of hollow core are we talking about?
QT – that’s a pretty good reason for not blogging. I felt like I was blogging about the same three things; my daughter, my wife, and myself. Let’s hope that changes. I’m happy to hear things are going well for you. It sounds like the year didn’t start off well.
SM – ha, do you like being your own boss even if it means you spend all of May in the kitchen? My guess is yes. Naked inlaws isn’t something I’d wish on anyone.
SM – I know, it’s a new me. It’s taken some adjusting on my own side.

  13. tori says:

Naked inlaws doesn’t sound good. Unless it is a name for a band or something, then it might be cool. I can’t imagine (and don’t want to) imagine my inlaws naked.
I’m glad you had a fun trip…I wish we could have gotten together but I know both of us are quite busy.

  14. big bro says:

    et dans le sixième mois…

  15. jaded says:

eeewwww. flashbacks naked flash by 80 yo woman. eyes. on fire!

  16. egan says:

Tori – I like the band name thing. Now playing, Naked Inlaws. Could make for some very interesting band groupies too. It sounds like you’re about a block away from being in Wisconsin though so meeting is tough. Busy? Yes, we were darn busy for our vacation, but it was very nice.
Big Bro – not sure what the sixth month holds. So far hot weather, a soccer victory, and a clean car. The month is very early.
Jaded – sorry, it’s not a good thing. It will haunt me the rest of my life.
